Alistair Cole FRGS FLS - Head of Safety

After a decade with the military, Alistair specialised in working in remote overseas project management as a medical and risk mitigation instructor, before returning to the UK and founding the Lifesigns Group. As a qualified Mountain Leader, Alistair has led over 40 overseas expeditions, holds numerous NEBOSH and CIEH safety qualifications, is an instructor in Off-Site Safety Management and is an experienced Trauma Medic. Alistair advised the media on overseas safety alongside advising travel organisations on strategy and safety. Alistair is a fellow of both the Royal Geographical Society and the Linnaean Society, is the current Chairman of the Expedition Providers Association and is a guest lecturer at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. 

Ian Forbes FRGS - Technical Advisor

Ian served for over 25 years with the British Army before joining Ouroboros. He is an experienced and highly qualified Mountain Leader, having led over 60 overseas expeditions to date and is a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Ian is also an overseas safety advisor to the BBC and has coordinated logistics and security on programmes such as SAS are you tough enough and Human Planet. He is an Off-Site Safety Management instructor, RLSS National Water Safety Management Instructor, 4x4 instructor, qualified Wilderness Medical Technician and holds numerous safety, engineering and auditing qualifications.

Dr Jacky Gibb - Medical Advisor

Having qualified as a Doctor and completed a variety of hospital jobs, including a four year stint in Accident and Emergency, Jackie decided that she preferred working in the outdoors. She has travelled or worked in over 50 different countries worldwide and regularly leads groups on overseas expeditions. She has successfully completed numerous high altitude treks and is a qualified and experienced diver.

Dale Templar - Media Consultant

Dale worked for 22 years as a producer and director for BBC Television. She series-produced the multi-award winning landmark documentary series Human Planet and has worked in some of the most hostile environments on earth.

Rowena Dodson MBA - Educational Advisor

Rowena spent a number of years teaching in the maintained sector, before moving into senior management in the independent sector.

 

Having worked on both sides of the education system she is aware of the pressures that now exist when organising any activities for young people.

Doniert Macfarlane MBBS BSc MRCS Dip Travel Medicine DFMS - Medical Director

Doniert has a background in Orthopaedics and Emergency Medicine. He founded Remote Medical Support over 10 years ago and has extensive experience of expedition medicine issues and prehospital care.

 

When not advising he works part-time as an Emergency Department Consultant. 

Tristan Brown - Head of Operations

Tristan initially worked as a Science Officer in the Philippines before taking over the role of Head of Operations. Tristan combines his role as head of operations and disaster management with the practical field knowledge he gained whilst working in a variety of locations including Madagascar, Philippines, Australia and Mexico.

Dave Lucas - Special Projects Coordinator

After an education culminating in a degree in Marine Biology and experience in outdoor education, Dave went into the world of expeditions. Over a decade later he has organised and guided over 40 expeditions resulting in over 53 months of experience in over 60 countries. Dave is a qualified EMT and has recently worked in the mountains of the Sinai Desert of Egypt where he lived for 18 months with the Bedouin, training them in mountain skills and trauma medicine

Diane Patrick - Specialist Medical Trainer

Diane worked across the globe in a variety of positions before re-training as a Paramedic in the UK. During her time overseas she qualified as a PADI master scuba instructor, worked as the Diving Officer for Raleigh International, qualified as a Coastguard Watch Assistant for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency and became a Detainee Escort Officer. Diane is a qualified Wilderness Medical trainer and spent several years training the Metropolitan Police in trauma management. She has also worked as the race medic on ultra marathons in the Yukon, Gobi desert and Amazon jungle.
